Nestled along Queensland's coastline, Bucasia boasts a history as intriguing as its scenic beaches. Originally dubbed "Marara," the area underwent a series of name changes—from "Seaview" to its current moniker in 1938, honoring Father Pierre-Marie (Paul) Bucas, the pioneering Roman Catholic priest of Mackay. 

Back in 1874, Father Bucas embarked on a mission, acquiring 1,680 acres to establish a sanctuary for displaced Aboriginal communities. This endeavor led to the creation of St. Joseph's Orphanage, managed initially by the Sisters of St. Joseph and later by the Sisters of Mercy. Despite its noble intentions, the orphanage faced challenges, notably its proximity to a swamp—aptly named "Orphanage Swamp"—which contributed to malaria outbreaks among the children. By 1885, health concerns prompted the relocation of the orphans to Rockhampton. 

Transitioning from its early days, Bucasia evolved into a cherished holiday destination before blossoming into the vibrant residential suburb we know today. Its picturesque beach, stretching approximately four kilometers, is among the longest in the Mackay Region, offering both locals and visitors a serene escape. ​
